Mariyati (Yati)
I come from Nias island, Sumatra. I have seven siblings. My parents are very poor and could not take care of me. I like to read and to help cook in the kitchen here at the orphanage. I have a strong will and am very smart. I sometimes dream about being a pediatrician when I am older. I am hopeful that being part of the Okoa jewelry co-op will open up more opportunities for me. Please pray that I would learn to be a good listener and an obedient girl. Please also pray for my family who live on an island far away.

Several years ago I came to this orphanage for help. I was young and pregnant. I gave birth and then ran away because I was scared. The orphanage director found out where I was and brought me back. I am grateful to her and have been helping her with the daily chores. My son is now two years old and is being raised at the orphanage. My younger sister Desi is here too. My family was very poor and I never went to school. I did very well making jewelry, but the day after we finished my parents came and took me back to my village. A man paid them to find him a wife. Pleas pray that my husband and his other wives would be kind to me and that God would bless me with good health and healthy obedient children. Also pray that I would remember the things I learned about God's love.

I come from a very remote area of the jungle in Papua, New Guinea. There is a lot of racial tension and fighting there. I have 4 siblings and because my parents are poor, they could not take care of me. In my village there was very little opportunity for schooling and medical care was inadequate. I was also exposed to drinking local liquor and drugs. My younger sister and I came to live at the orphanage. I am very quiet but have a lot going on inside. As I warm up to people they see that I am really sweet and have a beautiful smile. I am very thankful to be here at the orphanage where I can learn about God, have an education, and be away from bad things in my village. Please pray for my family who live in the jungle and that I would do well in school.

I come from Manado on the island of Sulawesi. I have 10 siblings. My family is very poor and there are struggles with alcohol and drug abuse. Several years ago my father died. My family life remained very difficult. My older siblings often come to our house for money but my mother doesn't have any. My family has a lot of problems and it is a painful place. I have a child that is being raised by the orphanage staff here because I am very young. I am so grateful to be here at the orphanage where I am learning about god. I feel safe here. I love to sing, read, and swim. I work hard at school and am excited to be learning English. I have seen God change my character and my family since I began to pray, so I am very encouraged an full of hope. Pray that I would continue to trust God to heal my brokenness.
